"Entertainment, Sport and Science" Besides our commercial activity we
consider it beneficial to maintain a link with the community, especially through
supporting important fields like entertainment, sport and
science.
EntertainmentProducing a collection of songs for
the first time amounts to a great challenge for young musicians, both from a
professional and financial point of view. This is even more so when a unique
style and sound requires a commitment to a high standard of production.
- In 2000, we helped the excellent Moonshiners with the release of "What a
Little Moonlight Can Do", a fascinating collection of jazz songs.
- The following year we helped out with a soft rock CD by Dawn & Chris.
The latest CD for which ALLROUND has provided sponsorship is entitled
"Crystal Mountain", a remarkable blend of Hungarian folk music and jazz by
Mihály Borbély's Quartet B.
While the pop music industry offers a
wide range of products both in Hungary and across the world, we feel that the
marketing of Hungarian vocal and instrumental folk music deserves a little extra
in the way of financial support - a key element of our sponsorship policy being
the preservation and popularization of cultural values. ALLROUND's main
contribution in this field has been its involvement with the release of several
collections by Katalin Szvorák. These are fine examples of authentic Hungarian
folk music appealing to both folk fans in Hungary as well as
abroad.
Katalin Szvorák releases sponsored by ALLROUND:
- "My songs" (1995) - A collection of folk-music tracks made over the
preceding decade, collaborating with various musicians and bands.
- "Aranyoslábú iglice" (1996) - A collection of folk-songs especially for
children.
- "At the crossroads" (1997) - Made in collaboration with Lajos Illés, the
founder of the famous Hungarian rock band, Illés.
- Wedding songs from Central Europe (2002)
SportsHungarian fencing
sport and its awards are well known all over the world. So it was great pleasure
to support the Hungarian Fencing Association and the Gerevich Sword Fencing Cup
in 1996.

ScienceBékésy György (1899-1972) was
awarded the Nobel Prize for Medical Science in 1961 for his study on "The
discovery of the physical means of sound communication and analysis in the inner
ear". His study and description of this and the development of a new way of
looking at the sense of hearing are major parts of his life's work. Additionally
he developed the first model to demonstrate a similar operation to that of the
inner ear as well as other highly sensitive instruments contributing to our
understanding of the hearing process.

We feel that in the current climate of
globalization it is of vital importance that information on Hungarian scientific
achievements, including those of Nobel Prize winners, should be accessible to a
wider public. The Internet, as a media source, offers a unique facility to do
this. ALLROUND was involved with the preparation of the registration web-page
for the International Békésy Centenary Conference. It was a great honor for us
to have the opportunity to support university education and the history of
science in this way. Both are areas we consider exceptionally important and we
were glad we could contribute our expertise to the celebration of this famous
Hungarian scientist.
We hope that, via the Internet, many people from
Hungary and abroad will be able to access information about Professor Békésy's
life, academic work and achievements, as well as other news and developments in
the field of hearing and related sciences.
